ghostly garden sewing Ideas: quilted bags, halloween decor & fun projects to make
If you’ve spent any amount of time around here, you already know I tend to have approximately one million project ideas floating around in my head at all times 😅
And while I wish I had endless hours to sew every single thing I dream up with Ghostly Garden, I figured the next best thing would be gathering all of those ideas in one place for you.
I already shared a roundup of Ghostly Garden quilt pattern ideas, but quilts aren’t the only way to use this collection. The playful Halloween prints, ginghams, florals, and blenders lend themselves SO well to bags, seasonal decor, storage projects, and all of the little handmade things that make fall extra fun.
Whether you’re a quilt shop looking for class ideas and samples or a sewist planning your next project, here are a few Ghostly Garden sewing projects I think would be especially cute.
Everyday Quilted Tote: A Perfect Halloween Tote Bag Idea
I made the small version of the Everyday Quilted Tote with my Ghostly Garden sample fabric and absolutely love how it turned out.
One thing I really enjoyed with this pattern was the opportunity to mix multiple prints together while still letting favorite fabrics shine. The collection has enough playful blenders and focal prints that you could make something scrappy and colorful or keep it simpler with just a few fabrics.
For mine, I used the grid built into the Sew Spooky print as quilting guides on my domestic machine which meant no marking quilting lines beforehand… always a win in my book 😂
I also think this would make:
an adorable trick-or-treat tote
a festive library bag
a seasonal project bag
an everyday fall tote
Basically… a cute excuse to carry Halloween fabric longer.
Spellbound Witch Hat: A Quilted Halloween Costume Project
Okay. This one is firmly planted on my must make immediately list.
The Spellbound Witch Hat by Polka Dot Chair feels like such a fun way to use Ghostly Garden, especially for: school Halloween parades, passing out candy, trick-or-treating with kids, costume parties.
I keep going back and forth between making a patchwork version OR using the Sew Spooky print as one larger statement fabric and skipping piecing altogether.
Honestly… I’m still undecided 😂
Another bonus? There’s a video tutorial available which always makes wearable projects feel a little less intimidating.
Olivia Basket: Reversible Storage Baskets for Halloween Sewing
Continuing with the Trick-or-Treat theme…
We have the tote. We have the costume. Obviously now we need somewhere to hold all the candy and little treasures.
The Olivia Basket by Knot + Thread would be ridiculously cute in Ghostly Garden.
I’m picturing these filled with: Halloween candy, mini pumpkins, sewing supplies, clips and notions, seasonal decor, little gifts. Because the baskets are reversible and come in multiple sizes, they’d be wonderful for using several prints together.
Some combinations I’d love:
Sew Spooky → instant patchwork feel with almost no extra work
Ghosts + ginghams → playful and colorful
Skeletons + florals → cute spooky vibes
I feel like one basket would quickly become three 😂
Quilted Halloween Bunting: Easy Halloween Decor Sewing Project
If decorating for fall makes you happy, this project feels especially fun.
The Quilted Halloween Bunting Pattern by Weekend Quilter gives opportunities to make small quilted pennants that can be hung as seasonal decor.
What I love most is that projects like this work for both:
newer sewists wanting a smaller finish
experienced quilters wanting to play with decorative quilting
Ghostly Garden would be SO cute here because each pendant could highlight a different print: ghosts, webs, skeletons. I’m imagining layered quilting, scrappy binding, and lots of playful color.
Also… this feels like an excellent batting scrap project.
Cozy Cottage Tote: The Ghostly Garden Project I Need to Make Immediately
I have seen Cozy Cottage Totes by Square Stories everywhere lately and every single time one pops up on my feed I think:
"I need to make this in Ghostly Garden."
Immediately.
I’m picturing tiny cottage windows with ghosts peeking out. Maybe skeletons. Maybe florals…
The bag itself has such a storybook feel to it while still being practical enough to actually carry and use. And I LOVE projects that sit somewhere between useful and whimsical.
This might honestly become one of my top Ghostly Garden project ideas.
If I make it, you’ll definitely hear about it 😅
Holland Pouch: A Quick Quilted Gift Project (That Doesn’t Have to Feel Halloween)
If you’re looking for a fast finish or a project that doesn’t require committing to a whole bag, the Holland Pouch by Center Street Quilts deserves a spot on your list.
This little boxy zippered pouch comes together pretty quickly, makes a wonderful handmade gift, and would be a great project for newer sewists wanting to dip their toes into quilting bags and zippers without feeling overwhelmed.
One thing I especially love about projects like this is how differently a collection can read depending on the fabrics you choose. I made a version using one of the Ghostly Garden florals paired with gingham, and honestly… it doesn’t feel Halloween-y at all. It leans colorful, playful, and sweet, which is something I intentionally try to build into my collections so they can stretch beyond one season.
I finished mine with a zipper and webbing from Stitch Supply Co., and those little details really make the pouch feel polished. (I’m a sucker for cute hardware and fun webbing 😅.)
I think these would be adorable for:
sewing notions & clips
smaller bags inside larger totes
makeup or travel pouches
teacher gifts
organizing all of the random little things that collect in a sewing room
Fair warning though… once you make one, they seem to multiply 😂
Why I Love Sewing Bags & Projects with Ghostly Garden
One thing I’ve realized while sewing with this collection is that it lends itself beautifully to smaller quilted projects.
The bold prints, playful Halloween motifs, and saturated colors make even simple projects feel special.
If quilts feel intimidating or you just want a quicker finish, projects like: bags, baskets, pillows, decor, wearables…can be such a fun way to sew with seasonal fabrics.
